One very busy Saturday morning
in 1986 I was approached at work by a
scruffy looking man. He had heard my phone interview with
Jim Martin
on 610 CKTB and wanted to do something similar on a weekly basis
year round. This was the beginning of a life long friendship
with Les Walton. I went on doing these weekly gardening spots
with Les well into the 90's. They aired, often on both HTZ 97.7
and 610 CKTB.
In
1990 out of the blue then Station Manager Greg Slaight called me in
and offered me the garden show. I was to start in two weeks.
That first Saturday morning with little fanfare I started at 7:30
am. Les Walton was in and out of the studio to lend support. My
operator was Doug Hobbs.
Since then it has been a 52-week a year commitment unless I was
fortunate to get either Christmas or New Years Day off. I was
even there Saturday, January 1, 2000.
Surprisingly enough it was a very busy show.
