Onion F1
‘Super Star’
‘Super
Star’ is the first hybrid onion to win the AAS Award. The last
onion to win any award was 53 years ago. ‘Super Star’
impressed Judges because it produced a sizable sweet
onion,
earlier than ‘White Sweet Spanish Jumbo’. It is adaptable to
any spring growing conditions in North America. ‘Super Star’
is adaptable because it is the first day length neutral white
onion. Most other onions require short nights or long days to bulb.
‘Super Star’ solves the problem and can be grown in the fall
too, given mild short-day conditions. The reason to grow ‘Super
Star’ in your garden is the mild sweet flavour, perfect raw for
salads or lightly grilled.
‘Super
Star’ needs an early start in your garden to grow the best bulb
size. Sow seed indoors 4 to 6 weeks before transplanting into your
spring garden. ‘Super Star’ can produce bulbs up to 2-3 pounds
under ideal growing conditions.

Sweet Corn
F1 ‘Honey Select’
‘Honey
Select’ is a new sweet corn offering gardeners a
"wide" harvest window with superior tender eating
quality. Isolation is not required. ‘Honey Select’ is a yellow
hybrid TripleSweetTM variety containing two endosperm types. Each
ear contains 75% sugar enhanced (se) and 25% supersweet (sh2)
kernels. The sugar enhanced kernels are tender unlike many super
sweet types. Because the (se) types do not need isolation,
any gardener can grow ‘Honey Select’ anywhere without concern
about other corn plants and pollen.

This
improved yellow sweet corn was noted by AAS Judges for its flavour
and quality. The ears will remain edible on the plant longer
because of the supersweet kernels. ‘Honey Select’ combines the
best qualities of sugar enhanced and supersweet in a vigourous
plant for gardeners. Tested across North America, ‘Honey Select’
is a reliable new sweet corn with exceptional flavour.
